Alex Mill Review: Mill Shirts, Cashmere and Totes, Fit Details and the $9 Return Fee

Alex Mill is a New York clothing label that started in 2012 with one product, a button-down shirt, and now sells menswear, womenswear, cashmere knits, canvas totes and accessories through its website and two Manhattan stores. Most shirts cost $145 to $175, trousers $165 to $225, cashmere sweaters roughly $298 to $398, and the canvas totes $155 to $225 before you add a hand-painted monogram.
This review covers what Alex Mill sells, fit and fabric details, prices, shipping, the 21-day return window and the final-sale rules.
At a glance Checked October 2026
Alex Mill suits shoppers who want well-made, slightly relaxed American basics, such as poplin shirts, pleated chinos, washed cashmere and a monogrammed tote, and who are happy to pay mid-to-premium prices. Product pages list garment measurements and fabric content. The catch is a short 21-day return window with a $9 fee on refunds, and sale items, monogrammed totes and all international orders are final sale.

What Alex Mill sells
According to the brand's story page, Alex Drexler opened the first Alex Mill shop on Elizabeth Street in New York in 2012 with the goal of making "the perfect shirt." In 2019 his father, Mickey Drexler, the former CEO of Gap and J.Crew, joined the company, along with creative director Somsack Sikhounmuong, who previously led design at J.Crew and Madewell. The team is based in SoHo, and the returns page lists stores at 77 Mercer Street and 1182 Madison Avenue.
The online store listed about 860 product pages when we checked, with most colorways sold as separate listings. The main groups are:
- Shirts. The Mill Shirt for men and the Jo and Gracie shirts for women, in poplin, oxford, chambray, corduroy and striped Italian and Portuguese cottons.
- Sweaters and cashmere. The largest clothing category, especially for women: washed cashmere crewnecks, polos and cardigans, plus cheaper cotton-cashmere blends.
- Pants and jeans. Men's Standard Pleated Pant in chino, corduroy and linen; women's trousers such as the Neil and 9th Street pants, and a small range of men's and women's jeans.
- Jackets and coats. Work jackets, waxed-cotton jackets, wool coats and one leather jacket.
- Totes and accessories. The garment-washed canvas Perfect Tote in three sizes, hand-painted Collector's totes, cashmere beanies and socks, scarves, hats and other socks.

Fit, measurements and fabric: what to compare
Alex Mill does not appear to have a working standalone size guide (the size-guide page returned a "not found" message), but individual product pages carry the details you need: a fit note, the model's height and size, key garment measurements, fiber content and care. Examples from current listings:
- Mill Shirt in Cotton Poplin (men's, $145): listed as true to size; a medium measures 45.75" around the chest and 30" long, with a 35.5" sleeve measured from the neck. 100% cotton, flat-felled seams, troca shell buttons; machine wash and line dry. Sizes XS to XXL.
- Jo Shirt in Cotton Poplin (women's, $145): true to size, but cut roomy: a small measures 46.25" around the chest and 27.5" long. French seams and a pencil slot in the pocket. Sizes XXS to XL.
- Gracie Shirt in Poplin (women's, $145): a closer "classic fit"; a small is 43" around the chest and 26.5" long.
- Standard Pleated Pant in Chino (men's, $165): relaxed through the thigh, tapered with a cuffed hem, longer rise; size 32 measures 34.5" at the waist with a 13" front rise. 98% cotton, 2% elastane; sold in waist and inseam combinations such as 32/30.
- Neil Pant in Herringbone (women's, $195): size 4 measures 30.25" at the waist and 41.5" at the hip, with a 12" rise and 29" inseam. 100% cotton; women's pants run in sizes 0 to 16.
- Jordan Sweater in Washed Cashmere (men's, $328): 100% two-ply cashmere, 7-gauge knit, hand-linked; a medium is 41" around the chest. Hand wash cold and dry flat, or dry clean.
Most items are labeled "true to size," but cuts differ: a women's small Jo Shirt is roomier in the chest than a men's medium Mill Shirt, so compare the listed numbers with a shirt you own. Many pieces are garment-dyed or garment-washed, and the brand notes that colors can vary slightly as a result.

Shipping
Alex Mill's shipping page offers free shipping on orders of $200 and up sent to the United States by standard ground. Puerto Rico and US territories are excluded. The page does not publish the standard rate for smaller orders or the price of express options, and the store's shipping-policy page is blank, so check the cost at checkout.
- Processing: orders typically ship in 1 to 2 business days. Expedited orders placed after 10am Eastern ship the next business day; weekend and holiday orders ship the next business day.
- PO boxes and APO: sent by USPS and not eligible for express shipping.
- Same-day delivery: available in Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn for orders placed before noon Eastern, delivered between 5pm and 9pm on weekdays. You must be home to receive it.
For international orders, the shipping page says shipping is free by DHL Express, orders dispatch in 2 to 3 business days and typically arrive in 3 to 7 business days. For most countries, duties and taxes are either prepaid at checkout or included in the price. Gift cards cannot be used on international orders, and DHL does not deliver to PO boxes.

Returns and exchanges
The US returns page says Alex Mill accepts returns of full-price items for a $9 fee, provided they are unworn, undamaged and sent back within 21 days of delivery in their original packaging with tags attached. The store's separate refund-policy page says 21 days "of purchase," so it is safest to start your return early.
- How: start at the brand's returns portal with your email address, choose the items and print a prepaid label. Refunds go only to the original card or PayPal account.
- Exchanges: the $9 fee is waived. The refund policy says you can choose a new color or size of any style, subject to stock, and the replacement ships once your return is processed.
- In store: online purchases can also be returned or exchanged at 77 Mercer Street or 1182 Madison Avenue.
- Final sale: sale items, monogrammed and hand-painted totes, and pieces marked final sale cannot be returned or exchanged.
- Not eligible: orders delivered to Puerto Rico and US territories, and all international orders, which are final sale.
There is no separate warranty. The refund policy says that if an item arrives damaged or has a material or manufacturing fault, the team will replace it or "work with you on another solution," at its discretion.
Who should buy from Alex Mill
- Shirt buyers who want a relaxed, well-finished cotton button-down and like comparing chest and length measurements before ordering.
- Cashmere shoppers who want 100% cashmere sweaters with the weight and gauge listed, or cheaper cotton-cashmere blends.
- Gift buyers after a monogrammed canvas tote, as long as they order early: hand-painted monograms ship in about three weeks and cannot be returned.
Think twice if you are between sizes and live outside the US, since international orders cannot be returned. US shoppers ordering several sizes should budget $9 per refund, or exchange instead.

Alex Mill coupon codes
We did not find a verified public code at the time of writing, and we do not publish codes we cannot check. The offers we could confirm on the Alex Mill website are standing policies: free US standard shipping on orders of $200 and up, free DHL Express shipping on international orders, and no return fee when you exchange instead of returning for a refund. The product feed showed almost no marked-down items when we checked, and sale purchases are final. Any working offers we find are listed on our Alex Mill coupons page.
