BARK Review: BarkBox and Super Chewer Plans, Prices, Shipping and No-Returns Policy

BARK is the company behind BarkBox, the monthly box of themed dog toys and treats, and Super Chewer, its version for dogs that destroy soft toys. Its website, bark.co, also sells individual toys, treats, dental products and beds through a one-time "Ship Now" shop. BarkBox plans start at $24 a month and Super Chewer at $29 a month, while most individual toys cost about $10 to $20. Delivery is limited to the 48 contiguous US states.
This review covers how the subscriptions work, what is in each box, toy sizes and durability, prices by plan length, shipping, the lack of a standard return policy and what to check before signing up.
At a glance Checked October 2026
BARK suits dog owners in the continental US who want a steady supply of novelty toys and treats around a monthly theme, with options for strong chewers and allergies. The trade-offs are that multi-month plans auto-renew and cannot be canceled mid-term, there are no standard returns or exchanges, and shipping fees for subscription boxes are not spelled out in the FAQ.
- Best for: Dogs who love plush or squeaky toys, owners who want a monthly surprise, and gift givers who can prepay a 3- to 12-month plan.
- Typical price: BarkBox from $24 a month on a 12-month plan; Super Chewer from $29; most single toys $10–$20.
- Shipping: 48 contiguous states only, no Alaska, Hawaii or Canada. Ship Now orders of $35 or more ship free; delivery usually takes 5–10 business days after shipping.
- Returns: The FAQ says BARK does not process returns or exchanges; the Happy Team "will do whatever we can to make it right" instead.
- Watch out for: Auto-renewal on multi-month plans, cancellations that take effect only at the end of the term, and destroyed toys not being replaced.
What BARK sells
The site is built around two subscriptions, with a store and gifts alongside:
- BarkBox. The classic monthly box: according to the FAQ, 2 toys, 2 bags of treats and a "surprise experience" around a theme. Toys tend to be plush, squeaky and multi-part.
- Super Chewer. 2 tough, fluff-free toys and 2 treat bags, aimed at dogs that rip through plush. You can choose a plush, durable or combo assortment.
- Ship Now store. Individual toys, licensed collections (recent ones include Dunkin', Crocs, The Muppets, Rudolph and Harry Potter), treats, meal toppers, Licksters enrichment toys, Bright Dental products, collars, leashes and dog beds.
- Gift subscriptions. Prepaid 3-, 6- and 12-month plans of BarkBox, Super Chewer or a combo.
Subscribers can also add one-off items to their next box using an "Add to Next Order" option, which is where most of the monthly free-gift promotions apply.

Box contents, dog size and durability
Before you choose a plan, three settings make the biggest difference to what arrives:
- Dog size. The FAQ lists Small for most dogs under 20 lbs, Medium for 20–49 lbs and Large for dogs over 50 lbs. All sizes cost the same and you can switch at any time; BARK suggests sizing up if your dog is between sizes or chews hard.
- Plush or durable. BarkBox toys are soft and squeaky. Super Chewer toys are built for strong chewers, for example the Frost Boss toy has a tough plush outer layer over a natural rubber core, and the Tough Timber Pine Tree is solid rubber and treat-dispensing. A combo option mixes both.
- Allergies and treats. You can set allergies and the treat or toy mix in your account, or ask for a toys-only box. The FAQ notes that BARK's food recipes all contain chicken, and that "All Treats" boxes have a fixed recipe and cannot be adjusted for allergies.
Durability is the area to set expectations on. BARK's FAQ says it does not replace destroyed toys but can adjust future boxes to your dog's play style. Individual toy pages list measurements and features such as "spot clean only" or "top rack dishwasher safe", which is worth checking for small dogs and heavy chewers alike. No dog toy is indestructible, so supervise play with any toy.

Prices
The FAQ gives starting prices of $24 a month for BarkBox and $29 a month for Super Chewer, with monthly, 6-month and 12-month plans; longer plans cost less per box. Current first-box listings on the site show:
- BarkBox: $24 per box on a 12-month plan and $27 on a 6-month plan (compared with a listed $30)
- Super Chewer or Combo: $29 per box on a 12-month plan and $35 on a 6-month plan
- Extra-toy option: about $9 more per box on these listings
Prepaid gift subscriptions are priced as a single payment:
- BarkBox: $99 for 3 months, $168 for 6 months, $294 for 12 months
- Super Chewer or Combo: $126 for 3 months, $216 for 6 months, $360 for 12 months
In the Ship Now store, most of the roughly 180 toys we looked at cost between $10 and $20, with a median of $13. Examples include the Frost Boss Super Chewer toy at $11.99 (from $14), the Tough Timber Pine Tree at $11.99 to $12.99, and the Fun Size BarkBox plush set at $17.99 to $19.99. Treats start around $5, and beds run up to $100. Many items carried marked-down prices when we checked.
Shipping
According to the FAQ, BARK delivers only to the 48 contiguous US states, using Amazon Shipping; Alaska, Hawaii and Canada are not served. PO boxes are handled by UPS Mail Innovations. The FAQ does not mention APO or military addresses.
- Ship Now orders: free shipping on orders of $35 or more (pre-tax, after discounts). The fee for smaller orders is not listed.
- Subscription boxes: the FAQ does not state a shipping charge; promotion terms say "shipping fees apply per standard policy thresholds".
- Timing: delivery usually takes 5–10 business days after an order ships. Recurring boxes typically arrive by the 20th of the month, though BARK asks you to allow until the end of the month.
- Billing: your first box is charged at sign-up and later boxes on the 1st of each month; the FAQ describes a later billing date for sign-ups after the 21st.
Orders with several product types may ship separately with different tracking numbers.
Returns and the happiness promise
BARK does not have a conventional return window. The FAQ says, "We do not process the return or exchange items." If something does not work for your dog, you contact the Happy Team (by chat, email or 855-503-3287), and BARK suggests sharing or donating unwanted items. The refunds page says food products cannot be returned and that the team "will do whatever we can to make it right". There is no stated number of days, refund method or timing.
Cancellations follow the subscription terms. You can turn off auto-renewal on a multi-month plan at any time from your account, but ending a commitment early requires contacting the Happy Team, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current term. Monthly plans are described as "cancel anytime".

Who should buy from BARK
- Owners of toy-loving dogs who enjoy a new theme every month and would otherwise buy several toys a month anyway.
- Owners of strong chewers, who can pick Super Chewer or a durable assortment instead of plush.
- Gift givers who want a prepaid plan with a fixed total.
Think twice if you live in Alaska, Hawaii or Canada, if your dog has a chicken allergy and you want treats included, or if you prefer the option to return items. Multi-month plans offer the lowest per-box price but lock you in until the term ends.
BARK coupon codes
We did not find a verified public code at the time of writing, and we do not publish codes we cannot check. The FAQ page still carries terms for several holiday codes from 2025 that have expired. What the site does list:
- Free shipping on Ship Now orders of $35 or more
- Lower per-box prices on 6- and 12-month plans
- Monthly "Add to Next Order" free-gift tiers for subscribers, limited to one per subscription
- A "Refer & Get $50" referral program in the site menu (terms not reviewed)
- A sale section with many toys marked down
Any working offers we find are listed on our BARK coupons page.

BARK is a good fit if your dog goes through toys quickly and you live in the continental US: plans start at $24 a month, toys and treats are themed and sized by weight, and there is a dedicated line for strong chewers. Go in knowing that there are no standard returns, that multi-month plans renew automatically and end only at the end of a term, and that subscription shipping costs are not clearly stated before checkout.
