beautyblender Review: Which Makeup Sponge to Buy, Prices, Shipping and Return Rules

beautyblender is the brand behind the pink, egg-shaped makeup sponge, and its own website sells the full range: blending sponges in several sizes, cleansers, cases, brushes, and a small line of base makeup. The company was founded by Hollywood makeup artist Rea Ann Silva and lists an address in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where orders ship from. Most single sponges cost $15 to $20, cleansers $9 to $20, and sets $10 to $55, with free US standard shipping on orders of $35 or more.

This review covers what beautyblender sells, how the sponges differ, prices, shipping, the return rules, and what to check before ordering direct rather than from a retailer.

At a glance Checked October 2026

Buying direct from beautyblender makes sense if you want limited-edition colors, the newer Bio Pure sponge, value bundles or the matching cleansers in one order. The catches are that returns cost you the return postage, used products are generally not accepted, and orders under $35 pay a flat shipping fee.

  • Best for: Liquid and cream foundation users who already like the Original sponge, and anyone stocking up on replacements and cleanser.
  • Typical price: $20 for the Original, Pro or Bio Pure sponge; $16–$18 for smaller sponges; $28 for the Bodyblender.
  • Shipping: Free standard shipping via USPS on orders of $35 or more; a flat $5.99 below that, according to the FAQ. No PO boxes.
  • Returns: Email customer service within 30 days for unused (and, per one line, gently used) items; you pay return shipping.
  • Watch out for: The brand recommends replacing a sponge every 3 months, so factor that into the real cost.

What beautyblender sells

  • Full-size sponges. The Original (pink), the Pro (black), the Bio Pure (made with a 60% plant-based foam), plus rotating limited editions and color "shade" sponges.
  • Smaller and specialty sponges. The Micro Mini Pro duo for concealer and detail work, the Beautyblusher Cheeky for blush and highlighter, the XL Bodyblender for sunscreen and self-tanner, and the Power Pocket Puff for setting powder.
  • Cleansers. Liquid Blendercleanser in lavender-scented and unscented charcoal versions, solid cleansers, and the Tool Scrub soap.
  • Cases and tools. The Blender Defender case, a UV Sterilization Case, a sponge holder, the Liner Designer and a mixing palette.
  • Brushes and makeup. Eye and brow brushes with cooling rollers, a powder brush, the Bounce Always On Radiant Skin Tint, Boost peptide primer and setting spray, and a setting powder.
  • Sets and bundles. Starter sets that pair a sponge with a cleanser, plus value bundles with makeup.

Sponge sizes and materials worth comparing

All of the main sponges are designed to be used damp. The FAQ says the "aqua-activated" sponge grows to about twice its size when wet and absorbs minimal product. The main differences are size and foam:

  • Original ($20): the classic full-size teardrop, a rounded base for cheeks and forehead and a pointed tip for corners. Product pages describe it as latex-free foam and say it has won Allure Best of Beauty 17 times.
  • Pro ($20): the same shape in black, which hides foundation stains.
  • Bio Pure ($20): uses "BioPlush" foam that the brand says is 60% plant-based from renewable sugarcane, comes in plastic-free FSC-certified cardboard packaging and is made in the USA.
  • Micro Mini Pro ($18): a duo of black sponges about a quarter of the size of the Original, for concealer, contour and spots around the nose and eyes.
  • Beautyblusher Cheeky ($16): a mid-size sponge shaped for the apples of the cheeks.
  • Bodyblender ($28): an XL sponge for covering legs and arms with sunscreen, self-tanner or bronzer.

Colored sponges can shed dye in the first few washes. The FAQ says beautyblender uses non-toxic, water-soluble dyes that do not transfer to skin once the excess water is squeezed out. These are the brand's descriptions; the site does not publish independent test results.

Shipping

The FAQ says orders are processed within 3 business days. Orders of $35 or more get free standard shipping via USPS, orders under $35 pay a flat $5.99, and faster UPS options are available for a fee. The shipping policy lists UPS Ground, 3-Day Select, 2-Day Air and Next Day Air, and reminds buyers that orders ship from Pennsylvania. beautyblender does not ship to PO boxes. The promotion terms add that free standard shipping applies within the contiguous 48 states.

International orders are offered to a long list of countries with "International Priority" shipping that includes duties and taxes calculated at checkout. Most arrive within 8 to 21 business days, and the makeup collection cannot be shipped to some countries. Report missing or damaged items within 15 days of receiving the package. The policy also says beautyblender is not responsible for packages once they leave its warehouse.

Returns

The return policy is less generous than many beauty brands' and is worded inconsistently. To return or exchange, you email customer.service@beautyblender.com with your order number and the reason, wait for an authorization number, and send the item back at your own cost. Key points:

  • Unused products can be returned or exchanged within 30 days of purchase. One line also mentions "unused or gently used" products, while another says overly used products will not be accepted.
  • Products found defective by customer service are accepted within 30 days.
  • Bounce Foundation and the Always On Skin Tint are eligible for a one-time exchange only.
  • Promotional discounts are recalculated on returns, and any free gift must be sent back too.
  • Only items bought on beautyblender.com are accepted; retailer purchases go back to the retailer.
  • Orders shipped to third-party forwarders are final sale.

Who should buy from beautyblender

  • Fans of the Original who want limited-edition colors, the Bio Pure version or the Pro in black.
  • Anyone restocking sponges and cleanser together, who can reach the $35 free-shipping threshold.
  • Self-tanner users who want the larger Bodyblender.

If you only need one sponge, a retailer may be simpler, since a single $20 order on the brand site pays shipping and returns are not free. Note that the FAQ says washing a sponge after every use and replacing it about every 3 months gives the best results.

beautyblender coupon codes

We did not find a public code that we could verify at the time of writing, and we do not publish codes we cannot check. What the site showed: free standard shipping on orders of $35 or more, a Birthday Sale with up to 30% off bundles, a free gift on orders of $30 or more, markdowns on some sponges and kits, and a separate discount program for professional makeup artists. The promotion terms say offers cannot be combined with other coupons or discounts. Any working offers we find are listed on our beautyblender coupons page.

Frequently asked questions

Is the beautyblender website legit?

Yes. It is the brand's own store, with a listed address in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a customer service phone number (888-474-5369) and published shipping, return and international policies.

How often should you replace a beautyblender?

The brand recommends replacing it about every 3 months, washing it after every use, and throwing it away if you see any mold.

Should a beautyblender be used wet or dry?

Wet. The brand says to soak it until it expands, squeeze out the excess water, then bounce product onto the skin.

Does beautyblender offer free shipping?

Yes, on US orders of $35 or more via USPS standard shipping. Smaller orders pay a flat $5.99, according to the FAQ.

Can I return a used beautyblender?

Generally no. The policy accepts unused items within 30 days, plus defective items, and says overly used products will not be accepted. Return postage is your responsibility.

The bottom line

beautyblender's own site has the widest choice of its sponges, cleansers and bundles, with free shipping from $35 and frequent bundle offers. The return policy is the weak point: you pay to send items back and used sponges are generally not accepted. If you know which sponge you like, buying a sponge and cleanser together is the most efficient way to order direct.
