ASTR the Label Dress Styles by Silhouette: Maxi, Midi, Mini, Bustier and Slip Dresses

Most of what ASTR the Label sells is dresses, and the same trend-led details (satin, lace, ruffles, velvet) show up across very different shapes. Knowing which silhouette you want, and which construction details come with it, narrows the choice faster than scrolling by color. This guide sorts ASTR's current full-price dresses by length and silhouette, from column maxis to bustier midis and slip-style satins, with the fit and fabric notes each listing gives. Prices ran from $89 to $198, all in sizes XS to XL. For shipping, returns and the brand overall, see our full ASTR the Label review.
At a glance Checked October 2026
Among 80 full-price dresses in ASTR's newest 250 listings, minis had a median price of $138, midis $124, maxis $173 and gown-length styles $188. Descriptions note construction details such as boning, smocking, adjustable straps and lining, but not fiber content.
- Best for: Shoppers who know the shape they want and need to compare construction details before ordering.
- Typical price: $89 to $148 for most minis and midis; $128 to $198 for maxis and gowns.
- Watch out for: Only 8 of the 80 descriptions say "fully lined," and the store's "slip dress" tag is also applied to several sweater dresses.
How ASTR labels its dresses
Each dress in the store data carries a length tag (Mini, Midi, Maxi or Gown) plus style tags such as Halter, Off Shoulder, Strapless, Sweetheart Neck, Mock Neck, A-line, Bodycon, Open Back and Bump Friendly. In the 80 full-price dresses we reviewed, 33 were minis, 14 midis and 32 maxis, and 13 also carried a gown tag. Open backs (13 dresses), mock necks and halters were among the most frequent details.
Tags are useful but not perfect. A few titles and tags disagree: the Lumi Sequin Bodice Satin "Maxi" Dress is tagged as a midi, and the Taryn Velvet Puff Sleeve "Midi" Dress is tagged as a maxi. The "Slip Dress" tag also appears on sweater dresses such as the Annie and Shyanne. When length matters, rely on the product photos rather than the tag alone.
Maxi and gown silhouettes
Maxis are where ASTR's prices are highest. The shapes break into a few groups:
- Sleek column: the Mackenzi Satin Halter Maxi ($148) has a cowl halter and "fluid, column silhouette," and the Shannon Satin Maxi ($178, brown) is described as skimming the body with a pleated waist detail and gold-tone hardware.
- Bias cut: the Jade Bow-Detail Satin Maxi ($128) is bias-cut from an empire waist, with adjustable spaghetti straps and a sweetheart neckline.
- Pleated: the Paulette Satin Slip Dress ($198, wine, brown or hunter green) uses sunburst pleating with adjustable straps and a side slit; the Adison Drop Waist Pleated Maxi ($178) pairs a fitted knit bodice with a pleated satin skirt.
- Tiered and flowing: the Journee Tiered Ruffle Maxi ($198) is chiffon, fully lined, with adjustable straps; the Odalys Flutter Sleeve Maxi ($178) and Katheryn Tie Neck Maxi ($178) both use tiered chiffon ruffles, and the Katheryn adds a drop waist and button front.
- High-low: the Casia Lace Ruffle Maxi ($188, wine) is allover lace with a front ruffle, waist ruching and a dropped hem.

Midi and mini silhouettes
Midis are the smallest group and the least expensive by median. Shapes and the details listed:
- Fit-and-flare knit: Geraldean Mock Neck Midi ($89, black or dark brown), with a keyhole at the center back.
- Pleated with an elastic waist: Blythe Satin Plisse Midi ($178, wine), with criss-cross adjustable straps and a tie-back cutout.
- Bodycon mesh: Florentine Embroidered Mesh Midi ($109), with a mock neck, long sleeves and a slip lining.
- One-shoulder: Esmeraude One-Shoulder Midi ($99), mesh with side ruching and adjustable ties at the shoulder and slit.
- Empire waist: Edwardine Plaid Puff Sleeve Midi ($119), chiffon with a square neckline.
Minis cover the widest range of shapes:
- Flounce and godet: Tasha Polka Dot Mini ($138), chiffon with flounce sleeves and a godet skirt for movement.
- Fitted waist, relaxed hip: Heloise Burnout Velvet Off-Shoulder Mini ($89).
- Knit halter: Lorenza Floral Halter Mini ($95), fitted through the waist and hips with an asymmetric flounce hem.
- Lace with a smocked back: Bryndis Scalloped Lace Mini ($109), fully lined, with a partially smocked back.
- Tailored vest dresses: Allyson Tweed Vest Mini ($128), a faux two-piece with a pleated satin skirt, and Luna Double-Breasted Mini ($168), twill with an adjustable back belt.

Bustier, strapless and slip-style dresses
These shapes depend most on construction, so read the listing details carefully:
- Abrianna Bustier Satin Midi ($138, black, brown or eggplant): a structured bustier bodice with lace trim, adjustable spaghetti straps and a smocked back; it is also the only dress in the set tagged Mermaid Trumpet.
- Rita Lace Faux Leather Halter Dress ($119, brown): a deep V halter bodice with side boning that "offers structure and support" and an open back.
- Ebba Sweetheart Feather Trim Mini ($129, black): strapless, with internal boning in the bodice.
- Janiyah Beaded Sequin Mini ($119, wine): strapless with an elastic neckline rather than boning.
- Addysen Velvet Bow Satin Maxi ($99, navy): described as a mixed media slip dress with adjustable straps; it showed no sizes available when we checked.
- Bernice Cowl Neck Satin Mini ($99, navy): a cowl-neck satin slip with peekaboo lace, an adjustable strap and full lining.
Boning and smocking change how a bodice fits: boning holds shape, while smocking adds stretch across the back. ASTR does not publish bodice measurements in the product data, so if you are between sizes in a boned or strapless style, compare the size chart's bust measurement carefully.

Fabric, sizing and fit notes across silhouettes
- Sizes: every dress here came in XS, S, M, L and XL. Our review found only three recent styles with 1X to 3X, so extended sizes are rare.
- Fabric: the listings name materials such as satin, chiffon, mesh, velvet, lace and knit, but not fiber percentages or care instructions.
- Lining: 8 of 80 descriptions say "fully lined," a few mention a partial or slip lining, and most do not say. Sheer mesh and chiffon styles are the ones to check.
- Adjustability: 20 descriptions mention adjustable straps or ties, helpful for slip and cami styles.
- Bump Friendly: four dresses carry this tag: the Blythe Floral Plisse Midi, Shyanne sweater dress, Tiana Polka Dot Maxi and Katheryn Tie Neck Maxi.

Do ASTR's strapless dresses have boning?
Some do. The Ebba lists internal boning and the Rita lists side boning, while the strapless Janiyah relies on an elastic neckline. Check each description.
