Perfect Tote sizes compared

The Mini, Daily, Weekday and Weekend share the same build: garment-washed 100% cotton canvas, an interior compartment with a zip pocket, a coated-canvas interior finish, and double top handles with tuckable shoulder straps. Their listings also mention solid brass snaps with a silver finish that let the bag go "from compact to roomy." Listed measurements for the whole family:

• Teeny Tiny Tote Keychain, $38: 2.75" tall by 3" long, 4.5" opening, 2" handle drop, with a real zipper and a clip for keys or a larger bag.
• The Perfect Canvas Pouch, $55: an envelope-style zip pouch, 7" tall and 7.25" long with a 10.5" top opening and a 2.75" bottom.
• The Mini, $98: 8.5" tall, 7.5" front panel, 7" side panel, 6" top handle drop and a crossbody strap with a 49" drop fully extended.

In practice, the Weekday is the size to compare with a typical work tote, the Weekend adds four inches of width for overnight packing, and the Daily is a smaller everyday bag. If you plan to carry it on the shoulder, compare the 9.5" (Daily) or 12.5" (Weekday and Weekend) strap drop with a bag you already use.

Colors listed

Colors vary by size. In the product feed we checked:

• Daily: Espresso, Cunningham Blue, Red, Deep Purple, Yellow, Navy, Natural, Military Olive and Golden Khaki.

Product pages note that garment washing causes slight color variation from bag to bag, and that the canvas "is designed to soften and fade with wear." Expect a lived-in look rather than a crisp, uniform finish.

How monogram and hand-painted orders work

Alex Mill lists its monograms as hand-painted by "our artists in Brooklyn." Personalized versions appear in the store as separate "Painted Perfect" listings for the Daily, Weekday, Weekend, Mini and pouch. Before ordering, note the rules the listings spell out:

• Final sale: monogram orders cannot be returned or exchanged.
• No changes: the listings say to double-check your details because the brand cannot make changes once an order is placed.
• Turnaround: about 3 weeks to ship from the order date, or 3 to 4 weeks excluding weekends and holidays on some listings, plus an extra 5 business days for international orders.

The monogram fee is not clear from the product data. The Painted listings carry the same base price as the plain totes, while the Monogrammed Tote IOU gift card, which covers one tote plus a hand-painted monogram, costs $255 for the Daily, $275 for the Weekday and $295 for the Weekend, or $100 more than each plain tote. Check the final price on the product page before you pay. Letter limits, paint colors and styles are not listed in the feed either.

Collector's totes, charity totes and gift cards

Beyond monograms, the store sells one-off hand-painted designs called Collector's totes. Listings described them as custom-made, final sale and shipping within 3 weeks. Designs in the feed included Weekday totes at $350 (NY with a heart) and $375 (Taxi, Hollywood, New York City and Sailboat), and Weekend totes at $395 (London Double Decker Bus, Manhattan, Bronx and Brooklyn). Most were listed in a single colorway.

A pink colorway made with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center was listed as a Weekday Tote ($175, plain or painted) and a Painted Mini ($98). The listing says "a percentage of your purchase" supports breast cancer research at the center; the percentage is not stated.

For gift buyers who do not know the recipient's initials or color, the Monogrammed Tote IOU comes as a physical card mailed within 3 to 10 business days or an e-gift card emailed within 24 business hours. The listings say there are no extra processing fees, and physical gift cards cannot be gift-wrapped. The shipping page notes gift cards cannot be redeemed on international orders.

Care, shipping and returns for totes

Tote and pouch listings say to spot clean with soap and water; none recommends machine washing. A plain Weekday Tote at $175 sits just under the $200 free US standard shipping threshold, so adding a $38 keychain or $55 pouch takes the order over it. US orders typically ship in 1 to 2 business days, but personalized pieces follow the 3-week turnaround above.

Unpersonalized, full-price totes fall under the standard US return policy: 21 days, unworn and with tags, with a $9 fee on refunds that is waived for exchanges. Monogrammed and Collector's totes, sale items and all international orders are final sale.
