Away Review: Series 3 Suitcase Sizes, Prices, 100-Day Returns and LifetimeCare

Away is a direct-to-consumer luggage brand that sells hardside suitcases, duffles, totes, backpacks and packing accessories through its own website and its retail stores. Its current core range is Series 3, launched with the line "ten years in the making," alongside the pricier Aluminum Edge and the front-loading Topside cases. Suitcases cost $328 to $618 at full price, travel bags run from $68 to $278, and Away says it currently ships to the US, the UK and Canada.

This review covers what Away sells, the sizes and specs worth comparing, prices, shipping, the 100-day return window, the LifetimeCare repair coverage, and what to check before you order.

At a glance Checked October 2026

Away suits travelers in the US, UK or Canada who want a polycarbonate spinner with built-in compression, published dimensions and a long repair program, and who are willing to pay full price for it. The main catches are that returns are limited to unused items, personalized pieces cannot be returned, and the free-repair period is five years rather than a lifetime replacement promise.

  • Best for: Frequent flyers choosing between carry-on and checked sizes who want clear specs and an in-house repair program.
  • Typical price: $328 for the Carry-On 3, $348 for the Bigger Carry-On 3, $398–$498 for checked Series 3 sizes, and $428–$618 for Aluminum Edge.
  • Shipping: Product pages list free shipping over $100; the homepage says shipping is free on luggage orders. Delivery is to the US, UK and Canada only.
  • Returns: Free returns and exchanges on unused items within 100 days; original shipping fees are not refunded.
  • Watch out for: Personalized items, final-sale items and gift cards cannot be returned, and the Flex cases may need to be checked when fully expanded.

What Away sells

The catalog is built around a few suitcase families, each offered in carry-on and checked sizes and in several colors:

  • Series 3 (The Carry-On 3, Bigger Carry-On 3, Medium 3, Large 3, Trunk 3). The standard hardside line with a polycarbonate ShockShield shell, WhisperGlide 360° wheels, StopLock brakes, "Handsfree Hideaway Hooks" for an extra bag, an outward-opening interior and Away's patented CompressMore system.
  • Flex 3. The same design with a zip expansion, sold in Carry-On, Bigger Carry-On, Medium and Large sizes.
  • Aluminum Edge. A textured polycarbonate shell on an aluminum frame with a zipperless closure and dual locks, sold from carry-on to trunk size.
  • Topside. A front-loading carry-on and medium trunk that open from the top, with a 2-inch zip expansion, a rear wheel brake and a 16-inch laptop sleeve on the carry-on.
  • Signature bags. The Signature Weekender, Triple Zip Duffle, Tote, Companion Bag and Slim Commuter Backpack, plus lighter Featherlight bags and a clear backpack.
  • Accessories and bundles. Packing cubes, custom wheel sets, luggage tags, gift cards and bundles that pair a suitcase with a bag.

Away also links to Reclaimed, a separate site for pre-owned luggage, and runs physical stores in the US, Canada and the UK.

Sizes and specs worth comparing

Away publishes exterior dimensions that include wheels and handles, which is the number airlines care about. Here is how the main cases compare, using the figures on each product page:

  • Carry-On 3: 22.1 x 14.4 x 9.1 inches, 8.6 lb, 41 liters. Polycarbonate shell, embedded TSA-accepted combination lock and a hidden pocket for a Bluetooth tracker.
  • Bigger Carry-On 3: 23 x 15.4 x 9.4 inches, 9 lb, 49 liters, pitched at 4–7 day trips. The page says it "fits overhead on most major US airlines," but at 23 inches tall it is larger than the 22 x 14 x 9 inch limit many airlines publish, so check your carrier first.
  • Carry-On Flex 3: about 22.1 x 14.5 x 9.1 inches unexpanded, 9 lb, 41 liters, rising to 47 liters with 2.25 inches of expansion. Away warns you may need to check it when fully expanded.
  • Medium 3: 26 x 18.5 x 10.8 inches, 11.2 lb, 72 liters, described as a checked bag for one to two weeks.
  • Aluminum Edge Carry-On: 21.7 x 14.4 inches tall and wide, 10.1 lb and 35 liters. The depth figure on the page appears truncated, so confirm it before buying. It trades capacity and weight for a framed, zipperless build.

The practical trade-off is clear from these numbers: the aluminum-framed carry-on is heavier and holds less than the standard Carry-On 3, while the Flex version adds about six liters at the cost of a little weight. Interior dimensions are listed too (20.1 x 13.9 x 7.5 inches for the Carry-On 3), which helps if you pack with cubes.

Shipping

Away's FAQ says it ships only to the US, the UK and Canada, and shoppers in other countries see a notice that the brand does not ship there yet. On cost, the Carry-On 3 product page shows "Free shipping over $100" with an asterisk whose terms were not shown, and the homepage promises "free shipping on luggage orders." Since every suitcase costs more than $100, luggage orders ship free either way. We could not find a published shipping rate for smaller accessory orders, nor delivery time estimates, on the pages we checked. Away links to an order-tracking portal, and suitcases ship in a dust bag.

Returns and LifetimeCare

The US returns page offers "free returns and exchanges on unused items for the first 100 days." Away suggests testing a suitcase at home first: roll it indoors, ideally on carpet, try the compression system, keep the lock at 0-0-0 and keep the original packaging. US customers print a prepaid label from the returns portal, but the original shipping fee is not refunded, and refunds can take up to two weeks. Standard returns are also accepted in Away stores.

Several things cannot be returned: final-sale items, personalized products (including luggage tags), gift cards and corporate gifts.

Every suitcase includes LifetimeCare Coverage. For the first five years, Away repairs functional damage from manufacturing defects or travel, including airline mishandling, with free round-trip shipping, and replaces the case once in that period if it cannot be fixed. After year five, repair support continues for the life of the suitcase and remains free in Away stores. An optional LifetimeCare Pro upgrade costs $35 and extends free repairs to 10 years with up to two replacements. Cosmetic wear such as scuffs, scratches, dents and stains is not covered, nor is lost or stolen luggage. The page says suitcases bought before April 14, 2026 fall under the older limited lifetime warranty, and it does not spell out how bags are covered.

Who should buy from Away

  • Regular flyers who want published exterior dimensions, a TSA-accepted lock and a repair program that covers airline damage.
  • Over-packers who will use the compression system, the Flex expansion or the Hideaway Hooks for a second bag.
  • Shoppers who want to test at home, since unused cases can be returned for free within 100 days.

Think twice if you live outside the US, UK or Canada, if you want a personalized case you might return, if you fly budget airlines with small cabin limits, or if you expect cosmetic scuffs to be fixed for free.

Away coupon codes

We did not find a public sitewide code we could verify at the time of writing, and we do not publish codes we cannot check. What Away does list: a 10% community discount for veterans, active military, medical personnel, teachers and students aged 18 or older, verified through ID.me and applied at checkout, which cannot be combined with other codes; bundle pricing that was typically $50 below buying the pieces separately; a sale section; and pre-owned luggage through Reclaimed. Free shipping applies to luggage orders. Any working offers we find are listed on our Away coupons page.

Frequently asked questions

Is Away legit?

Away is an established luggage brand with physical stores in the US, Canada and the UK, a published returns policy, an order-tracking portal and a written repair program. The main things to check before buying are the size limits of your airline, whether the item is final sale or personalized, and the five-year limit on free repairs.

Does the Away Carry-On 3 fit in the overhead bin?

Its listed exterior size is 22.1 x 14.4 x 9.1 inches including wheels and handles, close to the 22 x 14 x 9 inch limit that many US airlines publish. Smaller regional and international carriers often have tighter limits, so check your airline's rules.

Can I return an Away suitcase after a trip?

The policy covers unused items only, within 100 days. Away suggests testing at home on carpet and keeping the packaging if you are unsure.

What does Away LifetimeCare cover?

Free repairs for functional damage from defects or travel for five years, one replacement in that window if a repair is not possible, and ongoing repair support after that. Cosmetic wear and lost or stolen bags are excluded.

Does Away ship internationally?

Only to the US, the UK and Canada, according to its FAQ.

The bottom line

Away sells well-specified hardside luggage with clear dimensions, a 100-day window to return unused cases and a repair program that covers airline damage for five years. It is a full-price brand, so the best value comes from bundles or a qualifying ID.me discount. Before ordering, compare the exterior size with your airline's limit, decide whether you need the Flex expansion, and avoid personalization if you might return the case.
