Lost Dutchman Leather Review: Handmade Wallets, Full-Grain Leather, Lead Times and Returns

Lost Dutchman Leather is a small leather goods maker based in Apache Junction, Arizona. Its founder, Nate, started leathercraft at age 12, began selling online in 2017 and went full-time in 2020. The brand sells mainly minimalist wallets, plus passport wallets, watch straps, belts, notebook covers and small accessories, all described as handmade in the USA from full-grain leather. Most wallets cost $70 to $175, and limited-run wallets in Italian or Horween shell cordovan leather reach $350.
This review covers the wallet range and how the models compare, the leather and stitching, prices, lead times, shipping, a 15-day return policy that excludes anything personalized, and the lifetime guarantee.
At a glance Checked October 2026
Lost Dutchman Leather suits shoppers who want a slim, front-pocket wallet made in the USA and know how many cards and bills they carry. What Lost Dutchman Leather sells
The store listed about 125 products when we checked, and roughly 85 of them are wallets in different leathers and colors (brown, russet and black, with navy, olive and burgundy on some models). The main lines are:
- Card holders and slim wallets: the Finnigan, Mini Franklin, Franklin, Franklin 2, Thin Finn, Snap Finn and Big Finn family.
- Larger wallets: the Dutchman, Cash Finn and the Dad Wallet bifold.
- Passport wallet: the Huckleberry, in standard and tall sizes.
- Watch straps: the Sol Strap in 18, 20, 22 and 24mm lug widths, plus an Apple Watch version.
- Belts, notebook and passport covers, keychains, lanyards, coasters and catch-all trays.
- Create-your-own versions of most wallets, where you choose leather and thread colors, and limited "Drop Zone" releases in special leathers.

Wallet sizes, capacity and leather
The product pages list closed dimensions and capacity, which makes the models easy to compare:
- Original Finnigan ($75): card holder, 3.75" x 2.625" closed, up to 10 cards and folded cash, front flap, hand saddle-stitched.
- Franklin ($70): one piece of leather folded with no stitching, 3" x 3.875" closed, up to 12 cards, cash unfolded or folded in half. An International size ($75) fits notes up to 156 x 82mm.
- Franklin 2 ($80): adds a separate side-access cash pocket and divider; up to 10 cards and 15 bills. The brand says there is no international version and it fits notes up to about 69 x 161mm.
- Big Finn 2 ($150 regular): 4" x 3.125" closed, up to 10 cards and 10+ bills, side-access cash pocket and an optional easy-access pocket on the back.
- Dad Wallet ($175): classic bifold, 3 5/16" x 4 3/8" closed, 6–8 cards and 10–20 bills in a full-length cash pocket.
- Huckleberry ($175): passport wallet; the standard size fits 1–2 passports, 4–6 cards, cash and boarding passes.
The standard leather is full-grain American cowhide, and the Big Finn 2 page describes it as vegetable-tanned. Stitched models are sewn by hand with Ritza 25 "Tiger" thread, a 1mm waxed, braided polyester thread. Limited releases use other leathers, such as Dollaro, a pebbled vegetable-tanned leather from the Walpier tannery in Tuscany; Ghost, a black leather with a white wax finish that wears away with use; and Horween shell cordovan, a dense horsehide leather from Chicago. Belts use 10 oz full-grain vegetable-tanned leather at 1.5 inches wide with solid brass buckles, and the Sol Strap uses 6 oz vegetable-tanned leather.
Full-grain leather darkens and develops a patina, so expect the color to change, especially in lighter shades. The FAQ recommends conditioning the leather every few months or when it feels dry, and the store sells Smith's Leather Balm for $9.

Lead times and shipping
Lost Dutchman makes items in its own workshop, so lead times are listed on the FAQ and product pages, and they differ slightly:
- In-stock items: the FAQ says they ship within 5 business days; the Big Finn 2 page lists a lead time of 5–7 business days.
- Watch straps: ship in 4–6 business days, according to the strap listing.
- Belts: up to 2 weeks in the FAQ; the belt page says 14 business days.
- Create-your-own items: built from scratch, with a lead time of about 2 weeks.
Standard domestic shipping is free on orders of $150 or more. The shipping policy does not list rates or carrier transit times below that threshold, so check the cost at checkout. You get tracking once an order ships. If tracking shows delivered but the package is missing, the brand asks you to wait one full week before it files a carrier claim. International orders ship Delivered Duty Unpaid, which means you pay any import duties and taxes on arrival, and the brand will review an international package with no delivery 30 days after the order date.

Returns and the lifetime guarantee
- Window: 15 days from the date your order arrives. After that, no refund or exchange.
- Not returnable: monogrammed or otherwise customized items, all create-your-own products, and clearance items.
- How: email support@lostdutchmanleather.com for instructions. Exchanges are handled by email too.
- Return shipping: domestic customers get a prepaid label, but its cost is deducted from the refund, and the original shipping is not refunded. International customers pay for their own return shipping.
- Create-your-own changes: possible within 48 hours of ordering; cancellations are accepted only before production starts.
Every product carries a Lifetime Guarantee: if the craftsmanship ever fails, the brand will repair or replace the item free of charge. The policy wording focuses on craftsmanship, so normal patina, scratches and loss are not described as covered.
